History:Ancient medical remedy with a wide range of applications. As the botanical name implies, it was always considered an "Angel's Herb". Originating in Spain, Angelica Root was one of the few spices that were actually exported from Europe to the Orient. It was used as a common flavoring and apothecary drug, and, referred to as the "Root of the Holy Ghost", was considered to contain magical powers. It is also a flavoring for Cointreau liqueur.
Specific Safety Information:Powerful oil and photosensitizing. Apply to skin in very small amounts only. Oil is said to stimulate uterine contractions, so avoid during pregnancy. Also not recommended around young children and diabetics. Use in moderation. GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) approved by the FDA as food flavor.
